University of South Carolina President Dr. Harris Pastides took the job at the height of the Great Recession. He maneuvered through both the economic woes and significant cuts in public funding for higher education while bolstering academics and strengthening the university’s ties to alumni. Now that the region’s economic recovery is well underway, Pastides is asking lawmakers to re-examine how higher education is funded. He’s also calling on both businesses and educators to help emphasize careers for students in math and science. Joining Pastides in the conversation is Roger Schrum of Sonoco Products Company and Ronnie Bryant of the Charlotte Regional Partnership.
