Road Repairs

With an estimated price tag of $29 billion to repair and maintain South Carolina’s roads over the next 20 years, South Carolina Department of Transportation Secretary Robert St. Onge is looking to the state’s lawmakers for a plan to pay for the work. Finding the money will not be easy as policy makers have expressed reluctance to raise the state’s gas tax or add tolls to some roads. On this program, St. Onge looks at the solutions other states have found to address their infrastructure needs and discusses the significance of the Charleston port for the region. Ike McLeese, President and CEO at the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Ned Curran, CEO of The Bissell Companies and Chair of the North Carolina Board of Transportation join the conversation.
