Skills Gap

In a state where the unemployment rate remains above 8%, many companies report they are unable to find employees for open positions. South Carolina Technical College System President Dr. Darrel Staat believes applicants are likely underqualified for the work, or even overqualified. He cites statistics which show nearly half of the jobs in the state list a technical degree as a requirement for the position. On this program, we discuss the skills gap and the role technical colleges are playing in our economic recovery. Joining the discussion are Sid Smith of the North Carolina Business Leadership Network and Pat Sturdivant of the Capital Area Workforce DevelopmentĀ Board.
