Public funding for the arts is often a political target, particularly during times of austerity. Frequently missing from the political debate are the quality of life, tourism and business recruitment and retention effects of a rich arts and cultural community. Our panel for the discussion on public and private funding for the arts, as well as arts education and visual literacy, includes John Boyer of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Carlos Evans of Spoleto Festival USA, Todd McDonald of Clemson University, and Larry Wheeler of the North Carolina Museum of Art. Dr. Cheryl Richards, CEO and Charlotte Regional Dean of Northeastern University moderates the conversation.
