An Executive Profile with the man who heads one of the largest healthcare organizations in the region(formerly Carolinas HealthCare System). Topics include mergers and acquisitions, rural healthcare, Medicaid expansion, Federal policy concerns, and the opioid epidemic.
Much of the recent focus around the implementation of the Affordable Care Act has been on the decision by individual states on whether to accept federal money to expand Medicaid. And while the debate over payment for health care continues, providers and policy makers fear the progress of cutting health care costs for everyone may be lost in the national and regional discussions. On this program, we look at the decision by leaders in both Carolinas’ to reject the federal expansion of Medicaid and the partnerships which could be strengthened to provide care for the uninsured. Joining the conversation are South Carolina DHHS Director Tony Keck, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center CEO Dr. John McConnell, Greenville Health System Chief Medical Officer Dr. Angelo Sinopoli and Carolinas HealthCare System CEO Michael Tarwater.
The complexities of our health care system can make it difficult for patients to understand the true cost of their care. Doctors and hospitals are paid by insurers based on the services they provide, not for the outcome of their care for the patient. On this program, three hospital executives and a physician discuss the push to change the methods of compensation while lowering healthcare costs and convincing patients to live healthier lives. We are joined by Roper St. Francis Healthcare CEO David Dunlap, Russ Guerin, Carolinas Healthcare System EVP for Business Development and Planning, Laurens County Health Care System CEO Rich D’Alberto and Dr. Samuel Harris of Wake Forest Baptist Health Women’s Services, Lexington
