Traction for Roads

Posted on: July 12th, 2013 by admin

Whether it is clearing congestion or connecting rural communities to urban centers, efforts to improve the roads and highways in the Carolinas seem to be gaining some traction. North Carolina’s state transportation chief has proposed a new formula for allocating road funding , and South Carolina lawmakers recently approved a $500 million bond package meant to tackle some of the Palmetto state’s most critical transportation infrastructure challenges. On this program, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. President and CEO Ward Nye compares the Carolinas’ road-building programs with those of Texas, and discusses the ways states are raising cash to pay for construction. Bob Morgan of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and Deepal Eliatamby of Alliance Consulting Engineers join the conversation.

Posted on: August 31st, 2012 by admin

With the November vote looming, economic developers remain cautiously optimistic about the region’s economic recovery amid the uncertainty of the elections. Many companies are growing and unemployment rates are falling. Still, it is clear the job of matching the Carolinas workforce with the needs of employers is far from complete. On this program, we look at the current state of the economy and our workforce. Participating in the conversation are Natalie English of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Susan Peters of Francis Marion University, Loren Kennedy of Kennedy Advisors, and Russell Stall of Greenville Forward.
