Colleges and The Skills Gap

Even as the Carolinas cope with a higher unemployment rate than the national average, many of the region’s largest employers say they cannot find enough qualified workers to fill open positions. Technical and community colleges are working with industry to solve the skills gap, but business leaders and educators are also fighting a perception issue. On this program, we discuss the challenges behind getting employees retrained and back on the job. Joining the conversation are Dr. Tim Brewer of Mitchell Community College, Lew Ebert of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, Dr.Keith Miller of Greenville Technical College and Otis Rawl of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
