Tax Reform

An overhaul of North Carolina’s tax system seems to have risen to the top of the agenda for the state’s GOP-led General Assembly in 2013. Supporters of the creation of a consumption-based tax system, along with the abolishment of state income taxes, believe the reform measures would be a boost to the region’s economy and spur the creation of new jobs. Critics of the plan argue such measures would be regressive, hurting those who can least afford an increase in sales taxes. On this program,  North Carolina  Senator Bob Rucho explains why he’s leading the charge for tax reform in the Tar Heel state. Tim Boyum of News 14 Carolina and Winthrop University Associate Professor Dr. Adolphus Belk, Jr. join the conversation.
